From the Holy Grail Guitar Show. The thing I love about guitar show pictures--other than the guitars being presented--is what you see in the background.

Xaver Guitars
Another look at Gerry's latest creation. Unique in every way, this guitar belongs under someone's Christmas tree one week from today. Who will be the lucky one?

Padauk/Bearclaw Sitka Spruce Mini-Jumbo
I got to play this last Saturday--Gerry has done it again. Be sure to check this one out on the Xaver Guitars website, and if you give Gerry a call--he just might let you give this wonderful piece a strum or two.

Holy Grail Guitar Show
Here's to all the Luthiers folks. Today's Luthiers are producing the finest instruments ever. And a big shout out to all the folks making the noise--and a fine noise it is that is being made.

Cherub
Mike Sankey is amid the adults at the Holy Grail Guitar Show in Berlin. A big hello to all the luthiers at the show, and a really big shout out to the Canadian Luthiers including Mike, Grit, Peggy and Linda. Canadian built guitars rock!!

Bob
A great picture is worth a thousand words, and this one must be worth several thousand. The guitar, the hat, the bare feet, the dude, the old tire--if you look at something, and then you keep looking, and you continue to get things from it, then what you are looking at is art. This photo folks, meets that criteria in spades. This is art.

Randy Lucas
I always look forward to a new guitar magazine, but the real joy is going through the old ones. At the bottom of my stack I pulled out an Acoustic Guitar from February 2001, and included in the really great reading was a Gearbox Profile on Randy Lucas If you have tossed your old magazines--shame on you, no worry. Just give Randy Lucas a Google.

Xaver Guitar
This is the back of my Xaver guitar. On top of this flamed walnut back is a Western Red Cedar top. After playing this guitar for almost two years now I continue to be in awe of it. Right now it is sounding a little more on the jazzy side, but still suitable for anything you would like to play on it. The balance of tone is second to none, and the remarkable sustain makes it ever so wonderfully suited to fingetstyle renditions of jazz, pop, country, rock or blues. If I didn't already own this guitar, I'd ask Gerry to build it for me again.

J-200
I drove out to the new Long & McQuade in Kanada this morning and test drove one of these. I also played a D-18, a D-28 (interesting to compare) and a Taylor 12-string--the only 12-string in the place. They have a very nice selection of instruments--well worth the trip out.

Leo Posch
How about this nice OM from Leo Posch. Without knowing for sure, my guess is that this is Mahogony with an Adirondak Spruce top.

Roy Buchanan
You would need a large book to tell about Roy Buchanan. If you don't know who he is, shame on you. Give him a Google and you will be amazed at his contribution to and his influence on music as it relates to the guitar. And oh, get this--this guy turned down the Rolling Stones. What a great tragic legacy is left by Roy Buchanan.

Gibson J-180EC
How about this guy? First of all I love Gibsons--yes, they have had their ups and downs, but hey--what a history. Second I love jumbos, and Gibson does nice jumbos. Finally I adore Johnny Cash Black guitars. Throw in the Fishman electronics and you are approaching perfection. All you need now is the Man In Black himself.

Tommy's Guitar
Firstly I must say that I love Tommy's music. I have paid to see his concerts, I have purchased virtually every piece of his merchandise from his thumb picks to his guitar straps--yes, I am a genuine supporter. But---Tommy---do you really have to beat your guitars up. My old 1967 Gibson SJ has one major scratch on it. With all of the electronics in this guitar--is there not a better way of playing Initiation (etc) without virtually and eventually destroying a reasonably decent instrument? Love what you do--am just a little concerned about the damage done.

Clock
Grace Guitars for Girls. Such a cool concept. But if the truth be known--dudes can play these too. Personally I just love a little guitar with a big, full, rich sound.

Elvis J-200, Front and Back
Some folks feel this is just entirely too much blonde and prefer the J-200 in a sunburst. I don't think that at all, but given a preference--I would go with Johnny Cash Black.

DK Guitars
How about these great DK Guitars. Every guitar that Dmitry makes is a totally new and different concept. And he thinks of everything. Those spacers, for example, are placed so the string is "in tune" to the rear of the bridge so as to cause any false harmonics that occur to most likely be in tune with the string. And by the way--isn't that Pat Hawley in the background. You gotta love Guitar Shows. And on a totally unrelated note--a big Happy Birthday to my old friend Bill Emerson. If you look through this Blog, you will surely run across Bill and his old 1962 D-18.

Grace Guitars for girls
At the risk of being repetitious, ya gotta love the lady luthiers. Does anybody make guitars specifically for Old Hippie Type Dudes?

Holy Mackerel
Claude Laflamme playing a guitar by Pellerin. I don't know who is more amazing--Claude or the guitar.

Groovy
You know how I love the lady luthiers and their work--but here is an all new twist. This lovely gal makes guitars for ladies. I got to play Groovy, and although my fingers are a little big--she sang to me. Oh, and how about Cowboy Gerry Gruber and John Macdonald in the background. Don't you love it when that happens?

And the Old Dude gets a turn
I told Tony that I didn't get a chance to play one of his guitars at a Tommy Emmanuel concert a few years ago--but I got to play one at the Ottawa Guitar Show. I'm a happy picker.
