1976 D-45

This D-45 has unique features from other Martin dreadnoughts in its use of extremely ornate inlay details including unique binding and hexagonal abalone inlays.

The Grammar

This guitar is not for everyone's taste--but I rather like it, and would love to give it a test drive.  I might even consider it for my collection--providing it is for sale.

Tony and Norman

These guys have made some pretty good music over the years.  Tony's Martin might be one of the best known guitars on earth.

John Knowles

It's been awhile since we've seen John Knowles here on the old Blog.  I always think of John whenever I play guitar and am grateful for his wonderful "Fingerstyle Quarterly."  For a fingerpicker, the Quarterly is the best deal in town.  Not only is the instruction and the tabs first class--I like to just sit and listen to the CD.  Again John, many thanks!!

1967 Gibson Southern Jumbo

I got this guitar brand new in Winnipeg just before they brought in the sales tax.  All these years later she is still singing with the help of Yosemite Sam.

Tracy and Grit

Nice smile Tracy.  I'd be smiling too.  You are in pretty good company.  If anybody is wondering--these are two of the boys and girls who make the toys!!  Thank you guys for the wonderful work that you do.

Everly J-200s

In the 50's, these guys were right up there with Elvis.  They were going thru a pair of J-200's every month thus the huge pick guards.  Soon they designed the Everly J-185s which went through several minor evolutions, but to this day remain iconic among collectors.  And no--I do not own an Everly guitar.  Does anyone know where one might be found?

Johnny Cash

Mr. Cash had a lot of guitars, but you don't see this Martin Archtop in his hands too often.  My first guess is that it is an F-7.

Johnny Blues

To all our friends at the Ottawa Guitar Show today who were wondering where Johnny Blues was...

Emily Alice Shaw

Yes!  Emily will be at the Ottawa Guitar Show on Sunday.  If you buy a guitar from each luthier at the Show--it will only add about 46 guitars to your collection.  46 is too many?  Well... you could always narrow it down to say 30...  Or even a lesser amount.  But at least place one order.  I now own a guitar from two luthiers who will be at the show.  Shall we go for three??  Don`t let Donna know!!

Mike Sankey

This is Mike's Broadaxe.  Mike never makes two guitars the same--so the one you get is totally unique.  And also I'd like to send out a round of thanks to Mike for all of his hard work in organizing the Ottawa Guitar Show.  Stop by Sunday and say hello to Mike--and tell him you saw his Broadaxe on Jack's Blog.

Peggy White

The incredible, multi talented Peggy White will be at the Ottawa Guitar Show on Sunday.  If Peggy was showing one of her guitars--and it was the only guitar in the show--it would still be a great show.  But I expect to see at least 40 other local luthiers--some of whom you have heard of in this Blog.  Looking forward to a great show.

Loïc Bortot

Loïc Bortot is from France and will be showing his work at the Ottawa Guitar Show this Sunday.  I am hoping to get to play one.

Benoit Lavoie

Getting down to the wire now.  Each passing day brings us closer to the Ottawa Guitar Show.  And yes, Benoit will be there.

Thursday, June 16, 2016

Bernard Funston

Yes--Bernard will be at the Ottawa Guitar Show along with at least 39 other Ottawa area luthiers.  Are you excited yet?

Wednesday, June 15, 2016

Emile Gervais

Emile will be at the upcoming Ottawa Guitar Show along with about 40 other luthiers from this area.  If you live in Ottawa and play guitar--this years Guitar Show is guaranteed to blow your mind.

Kathy Wingert

Kathy says, "Once it's trimmed and the 60 grit scratches are gone... Can you tell how pretty this is going to be??"  Not yet--but we hope to see the finished guitar.  So far... so beautiful.

Marc Saumier

Marc Saumier will be returning to the Ottawa Guitar Show this year.  I would be proud to include this piece in my collection.

Guy Clark RIP

Guy is gone but his tunes are forever, and he sure left a lot of them behind.  One of the greats who will always be remembered.  And a lot of funny stories as well.

Guy Clark

We lost Guy Clark this morning.  I just can't bring myself to play guitar today.  Guy would not have liked that--but it is just so sad.  I will just listen to his tunes and try to understand where all of those brilliant lyrics came from.  I wonder if he is with Townes--and who will kick who off of the cloud first.

Baton Rouge L12

I am constantly on the lookout for a 12-string that plays fingerstyle like a fine 6 string.  I suggest you visit the Baton Rouge guitars web site--and also have a look at Casper's BR guitar.  It's not a 12 string, but it caused me to show BR Guitars on this Blog.

Tony Rice

After Clarence was killed, 58957 ended up in a pawn shop for a number of years.  Although the tone was, and still is, angelic, the guitar as you've seen in these past posts, was pretty rough.  Tony asked the Pawn Shop owner "How much do you want for that piece of junk?"  and a heated argument ensued and Tony was ejected from the shop.  Years later they struck a deal--Tony got the guitar for far less than he was willing to pay and the rest is history.

Manzer/White Guitar

This Ladies and Gentlemen is the very first Manzer/White Guitar in existence.  I have shown guitars from both of these ladies on this Blog and they are both luthiers at the very top of the game.  Linda Manzer is probably the number one female luthier in the world, and she told me that Peggy does some things even better than she.  Put them both together and the guitar you see here has to be super fine.  Roddy Ellias is a lucky man.

58957 Bridge

This old Martin might be more famous than you realize.  As a member of the Kentucky Colonels, Clarence White played it on the Andy Griffith Show.  He also played it as a member of "The Bird's."  And how this guitar got into the hands of Tony Rice is a whole saga on it's own.

This Beautiful Guitar has been used

This guitar, owned by Clarence White is now owned by Tony Rice.  It has also been played by Jerry Garcia--hear it on "The Pizza Tapes."
